Placerville Union Cemetery, originally called "Union Cemetery", was created in 1871 by a group of fraternal organizations including the Free and Accepted Masons, the Druids, Oddfellows, Redmen, Eagles, Native Sons of the Golden West, and the Knights of Pythias. There was also a section for the Grand Army of the Republic.

The first official burial in the cemetery took place in the Masonic section when John Roy was buried in May 12, 1871. A number of people were removed from other local cemeteries and re-interred in Placerville Union. The cemetery was run by the fraternal organizations until early 1960's when it was turned over to private management. In 2005 the County of El Dorado, Cemetery Administrator's Office took over management of cemetery. For information on this burials in this cemetery the Cemetery Administrator's Office can be reached at (530) 642-4922.
