Born, fifth of seven children to Francis xavier and Bridget T. Coyle Heitter, in Kickapoo, IL. John signed up for the draft on June 5th 1917, just before his 22nd birthday. He married, Lillian Marie Hickey on Nov 27, 1917, in Stark, IL. they had seven children; Jacqueline Hietter (1919–1948), Donald Hietter (1921–),
Dorothy A Hietter (1922–2013), John Phillip Hietter (1923–1997),
Margaret L Hietter (1926–2012), Charles J Hietter(1930–2012) and
Marilyn Hietter(1934–1997). Lillian died June 4, 1979.
