Matilda F. RANNEY

Uppertown Cemetery
El Dorado County,

22 Apr 1827 - 11 Mar 1912

1837 - 9 Jul 1893

Mountain Democrat (Placerville, CA), Saturday, July 15, 1893, Page 5:
"Mrs. Matilda Ranney, wife of George C. Ranney, died at Oakland last Sunday, from a stroke of paralysis, at the age of 58 years. The remains were brought here for interment in the Upper Town cemetery, the funeral taking place immediately after the arrival of the evening train Tuesday. Two daughters, Mrs. Mary Givens and Mrs. Mattie Litrelle, were present at the funeral, but the youngest daughter, Georgie, was on a camping trip in the Santa Cruz mountains and it was impossible to get word to her in time to be here. Mrs. Ranney had lived in Placerville since 1852, removing to Oakland about a year ago, and her sudden death was a shock to her many friends and acquaintances."

Matilda is buried in the family plot next to her husband George C. Ranney. There are not markers on their graves, just the name "Ranney" stamped in curbing at the entrance to the plot.
